The History of TEC Grills
For almost 50 years, Thermal Engineering Corporation (TEC) has been the world leader in infrared innovation. With over 100 patents and patents pending dealing with radiant technology, no one knows more about infrared energy than we do.
In fact, our founder, CEO, and resident inventor, Bill Best, patented the first gas powered infrared burner in 1961. He first used this new technology in the manufacture of energy efficient industrial heaters but later applied it in the development of several important industrial process systems, including the method to manufacture radial tires. In the 1970's, 80's, and 90's, the TEC Turbulator Oven, Radiant Wall Oven, and Air Radiant Oven revolutionized paint and drying systems in industries throughout the world by improving the quality of finish, saving millions of dollars in energy per year, and decreasing the floor space required for the installation of the equipment. During this time, it was estimated that at least 70% of the automobiles being manufactured in the world went through a TEC paint finishing oven.
It was not until the early 1980's that Bill took one of his ceramic infrared burners, put it in a grill that he built for his own personal use, and invented infrared grilling. He became the first to discover that radiant energy cooks without drying out food. Close to three decades later, infrared is recognized by top chefs around the world as the best choice for grilling. Our original ceramic infrared burners cook with about 35% radiant energy and 65% hot air. These same burners are still being used by other grill companies today in the manufacture of infrared grills.
TEC's latest, patented, infrared grilling systems have revolutionized infrared grilling. They cook with 100% infrared energy, totally eliminating the hot air associated with gas grills and are the most energy efficient, environmentally clean, grilling systems available today. Our new residential grills employing this technology won Hearth and Home Magazine's VESTA Award for Best New Gas Barbeque and Best in Show for Outdoor Room Products. In our commercial line of grills, this same technology was awarded the prestigious Kitchen Innovations Award presented by the National Restaurant Association and named Product of the Year by the Gas Foodservice Equipment Network.
